Alligators Everywhere!

We’ve seen a lot of alligators in the last 24 hours.  They are everywhere!IMG_20160319_163800968

And, we walked around some old cypress trees.IMG_20160319_160602209

Tomorrow, we head to Cayo Costa State Park.  After 2 nights of air conditioning, we’re back to our tent for the remainder of our trip.  I’m looking forward to it — back to white sand & warm water.  And, away from the heat & humidity of the Everglades.

Everglades…gator country!

We went to the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Centre to learn about Everglades National Park.  Then, we walked the board walks along the Anhinga Trail & saw lots alligators, turtles and fish.  It was hot & humid.

There are lots of board walk trails to explore.  We met an owl on one of them.IMG_20160318_175900991

It is wild country & as we drove around the outskirts of the park, we discovered several prisons.  A bit bizarre & unsettling!

Now, on to EvergladesCity where we will enjoy some air conditioning.

Key West

I didn’t realize Key West is such a party town, especially on St. Patrick’s Day.  We stopped by the USA’s most southern point & drank some coconut water.IMG_20160317_155041404

And, we tried some key lime pie.

And, we walked past Hemingway’s house.

A 3 hour tour….

We took a 3 hour snorkeling trip to Looe Key, a coral reef marine park.  IMG_20160317_121507754

We saw lots of colourful fish… barracudas, parrot fish, puffer fish, angel fish, a giant Goliath grouper, and most exciting a grey reef shark.  Thankfully, we were told that we may see some sharks but they wouldn’t be interested in us. Nevertheless, I was still a wee bit nervous. It was a great adventure.
