We’ve seen a lot of alligators in the last 24 hours. They are everywhere!
And, we walked around some old cypress trees.
Tomorrow, we head to Cayo Costa State Park. After 2 nights of air conditioning, we’re back to our tent for the remainder of our trip. I’m looking forward to it — back to white sand & warm water. And, away from the heat & humidity of the Everglades.
We took a wild ride on an airboat through the mangroves & grasses.
And, we saw a few more gators.
Shane, our weathered driver, gave us some directions to get to some 8ft. gators.
“There just down this dirt road. Can’t miss them. Watch your kids though.”

We went to the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Centre to learn about Everglades National Park. Then, we walked the board walks along the Anhinga Trail & saw lots alligators, turtles and fish. It was hot & humid.
There are lots of board walk trails to explore. We met an owl on one of them.
It is wild country & as we drove around the outskirts of the park, we discovered several prisons. A bit bizarre & unsettling!
Now, on to EvergladesCity where we will enjoy some air conditioning.
We loved Bahia Honda & have become accustomed to the heat. We met several fellow Canadians from Ontario. Such a beautiful campsite. We will be back!
I didn’t realize Key West is such a party town, especially on St. Patrick’s Day. We stopped by the USA’s most southern point & drank some coconut water.
And, we tried some key lime pie.
And, we walked past Hemingway’s house.
We took a 3 hour snorkeling trip to Looe Key, a coral reef marine park.
We saw lots of colourful fish… barracudas, parrot fish, puffer fish, angel fish, a giant Goliath grouper, and most exciting a grey reef shark. Thankfully, we were told that we may see some sharks but they wouldn’t be interested in us. Nevertheless, I was still a wee bit nervous. It was a great adventure.
Bahai Honda State Park is beautiful. We’re camping across the road from the beach. There are lots of little birds overhead in the trees.
The beach is perfect for swimming. We set up 2 beach shelters to shield us from the sun.
